Holding the Golf Club - Introduction
Holding the Golf Club
Holding the golf club correctly is perhaps the most important fundamental in building a sound, repeatable golf swing.
The grip is the only connection with the club, the implement with which we strike the golf ball. As such, it is of crucial importance to the rest of the process.
Your grip is the foundation on which the rest of your swing is built.
If what follows in these lessons seems to be a very detailed description of the grip, it's because it is such an important and unfortunately, neglected aspect of the way the game is taught.
I see many golfers who have little or no understanding of the correct way to grip the club, and what effect an incorrect grip will have on their golf swing.
Please take your time and follow these instructions carefully. Even if you think your grip is good, it does no harm to check.
The lessons will make more sense if you have a golf club in your hands as you read them.
If you have any questions, or are unsure about any of these instructions, please get in touch by sending an email to [email protected].
(For left handed players, apologies but for clarity I haven’t included opposite handed instructions in the text.
Please swap left for right and right for left etc.)
